A brilliant header from Spanish striker Alvaro Morata was enough for Chelsea to earn all three points against Man United on Sunday in the Premier League.
Chelsea, after losing 3-0 at Roma in the Champions League last midweek, were the better team against Jose Mourinho’s men.
It’s also worth noting that Man United have an appalling record at Stamford Bridge in the league.
United last won at Chelsea in 2012, and that was against nine men.
Put another way, United have only won once at the Blues in 16 attempts.
Why was David Luiz dropped?
On Sunday morning rumours started the spread that David Luiz was dropped for the Man United game.
Then, a little over an hour before kick off, those rumours crystalised as the Brazilian arrived at Stamford Bridge not wearing official club gear.
When the team sheets were finally revealed, Luiz was absent from the Chelsea matchday squad.
While it’s true Luiz struggled to impress against Roma, so did most of the Chelsea stars.
And on Monday morning the Times have confirmed that Luiz’s performance against Roma wasn’t the reason he was dropped. Instead it’s because of a falling out with Antonio Conte:
The Times has learnt that Luiz was banished from training by the head coach on Friday after an exchange between the pair the previous day, which the defender maintains was a misunderstanding.
Conte is understood to have taken exception to a perceived questioning of his authority by Luiz, who was taken to task by the head coach.
The 30-year-old trained with youngsters at the club’s training ground yesterday morning before reporting for duty at Stamford Bridge, where he sat in the stands behind the substitutes. Next to him was Kenedy, his compatriot, who was also dropped from the squad after angering Conte by yawning in the team meeting after the Roma defeat.
