The lineup which Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli is expected to field when the Albiceleste take on Iceland this weekend has leaked online yesterday’s evening.
The South American powerhouse are set to open their World Cup adventure with a clash versus Heimir Hallgrímsson’s Iceland on Saturday afternoon, with Argentina of course the firm favourites to emerge victorious.
Despite the wealth of talent (albeit mainly in attacking areas) possessed by Argentina, a major question which has nevertheless surrounded the 2-time World Cup winners is exactly how they will line up in Russia over the coming weeks.
After majorly struggling through their CONMEBOL qualifying group to secure their place at this summer’s showpiece, the Albiceleste’s first-choice XI is still a mystery to most, with the similar characteristics possessed by Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala, as well as Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain, meaning that several of the country’s most high-profile names will likely have to make do with a place on the bench in Russia.
And, if the aforementioned leak doing the rounds online this evening is in any way accurate, then Juventus stars Dybala and Higuain, as expected, will both be left out of Jorge Sampaoli’s starting XI for Argentina’s matchup with Iceland on Saturday.
There also looks set to be no place for Roma defender Federico Fazio, PSG midfielder Giovani Lo Celso or experienced Sevilla man Ever Banega, with Javier Mascherano expected to form an experienced albeit aging midfield pivot alongside Lucas Biglia:
