Barcelona have beaten a host of Premier League clubs to the signing of Gremio midfielder Arthur Melo.
Barca are set to complete the signing in July after agreeing a £27million deal, with an extra £8m on top with add ons.
“FC Barcelona and the Brazilian club Gremio de Porto Alegre have reached an agreement on a purchase option for the player Arthur Henrique Ramos de Oliveira Melo, whereas FC Barcelona may exercise this right on the player’s federative rights during July of 2018,” Barca said in a statementon Sunday.
“In the event that the club finally exercises the option signed, the price of the transfer is set at €30m plus €9m in variable amounts.”
Premier League giants Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool had all been interested in the 21-year-old.
The Brazil under 20 man has played 51 times for Gremio after breaking into the first team in 2016 – after moving from hometown side Goias aged 14.
He was a key member of the club’s Copa Liberadores title last season, and has also won Copa do Brasil and Recopa Sudamericana crowns.
Arthur could be part of Brazil’s World Cup squad in Russia this summer having earned his maiden international call-up against Bolivia and Chile last year.
He is known for his accomplished passing and will meet up with fellow Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Paulinho at the Catalan giants.
